Mistake should not be repeated- Brian Pointon

I do not after driving through Biddulph see waht Cllr Hart is talking about when he mentioned jobs being created by Sainsbury's.

Most of the jobs will be part time- not a good thing when bills have to be paid.

Mr Hart comes from Biddulph and he must see what it has done to the town, most shops closed and many jobs lost and those that are open have seen a decline in their business.

Get them to walk around Leek and look at the type of shop we have- they only cater for the few or stand empty.

The market is getting less and less judging by the row of stalls missing. Surley the council can learn form this mistake.

Also I have taken the trouble to watch the traffic going around and around the roundabout for a number of days and I don't see what the problem is.

  1. Having something nice to look at doesnt necessarily help the town grow, and we were offered a memorial garden which would be nice to look at which was turned down. There was proper consultation, the plans were available all last year, dont believe the hype on this. It only got blown up this year because the British Legion got their knickers in a twist over the memorial. They have had tons of money to do the war memorial up which I think is amazing. The smithfield centre is infinitely more of an eye sore and there was no protests when that went up. Morrisons are getting away with exactly what they want without any consultation, lets get things in perspective.
If you actually look at the one way system plans and take away the emotion about a piece of concrete with flowers on, it actually makes sense. It will stop the bottlenecks at the top of St Edward Street and at rush hour the roundabout by the memorial is a nightmare. People coming down of the Ashbourne Road always get snarled up to get across. It will enable the second part of Derby Street to be pedestrianised which will improve the shopping experience and encourage more footfall to go to the local shops (which everyone says are under threat from Sainsburys).
